Improvised Steps

from Piano Pieces by Lee Lucas

about

"Improvised Steps" is the latest piece I have played on the piano, and was done on Friday the 26th June 2015. Because of my bad skin condition and it preventing me from doing that much really new at all. I had a good 3 days this week via the use of my steroid cream. So I decided to spend a bit of time on the keyboard, as I was really rusty for not having played for well over 2 months.

Having spent around half an hour a day over Wednesday and Thursday I decided to record a new piece on the Friday. The piece itself I worked out all the chords for first, and played a couple of times before recording it. It's perhaps more of a composed piece doing it this way, but when I hit the record button and started playing it, I sort of lost my way a bit towards the end, and went in another direction. So it does have some improvisation in it now I feel too.

Having recorded the piece and listening to the playback, I felt it had a feel of a dance about it, perhaps more associated with other European countries than my own. It was hard to put a title to the piece and for some reason it had me thinking of my good Canadian friend Steve Manuel and his young daughter Lily dancing away like an angel of innocence to it, that the title I first came up with was "Dancing With Lilly On the Other Side Of the Pond" but because the piece had this European feel about it, I knew this would not of fitted somehow.

I then googled the word Dance and found myself on Wikipedia and I saw the words "Improvised Steps" and that is what I chose instead, as it was a form of dance and the art of dance.

The funny thing was the very next day I seen my friend Steve had posted a bit of Lily's art on his Facebook wall. So I asked him if I could use it for the Soundcloud release, to which he kindly obliged and somehow I feel perhaps a bit guilty for not sticking with my original title in the first place.
