The (Avant) Turous (Garde) En

from Piano Pieces by Lee Lucas

about

"The (Avant) Turous (Garde) En" is the longest piece on the album and is a very adventurous journey of an improvisation done over some 14 minutes on the keys. This piece I done on the 4th June 2013 and boy was I well pleased when I played it back.

It's title is based around the word avant-garde basically because the places I went on this journey on the keys, were very sporadic in some of its parts, and certainly pushing the boundaries, so I very much categorised it with the genre of avant-garde.

The piece is far from perfect and perhaps does not hold up that well towards its end. But I regard it personally as the finest piece I have done in the way of a piano solo, and am dead proud of it. It's full of imperfections, but it's also full of beauty, grace, power and dynamics.
